Fractures

Did you know that there a several different types of fractures?

  • Closed – skin intact
  • Open/Compound – bone pierces skin
  • Transverse – broken straight across
  • Spiral – fracture from twisting force
  • Comminuted – multiple pieces of bone
  • Impacted – from vertical force on long bone
  • Greenstick – incomplete fracture, common in children
  • Oblique – diagonal fracture
  • Displaced – bones no longer aligned
